Our Board of Executive Trustees is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity. Together, the Trustees:

• Set and maintain vision, mission and values
• Develop strategy
• Ensure accountability and compliance with the law
• Maintain financial oversight
• Select and support the Chief Executive

Trustees are selected to ensure that the charity is led by a strong board with a broad range of skills, expertise and experience. Our trustees come from a wide variety of backgrounds and each has a strong interest in or experience of HIV. Between them, our Trustees live and work in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The full Board of Trustees usually meets four times a year and since 2007 has been chaired by Dame Denise Platt.

The Board has two subcommittees.  The Finance and General Purposes Committee usually meets four times a year and has delegated responsibility for overseeing and scrutinising the finances and resources of the charity.  The Recruitment and Succession Planning Committee meets at least once a year and ensures that, collectively, trustees have all the necessary knowledge and skills to discharge their responsibilities as a Board.

Trustees are unpaid, but may claim expenses incurred performing their duties as Trustees.
