NAT comments on the mental health needs of people with HIV on Mental Health Action Week
On Mental Health Action Week, 23 – 29 March, NAT calls for the mental health needs of people living with HIV to be more widely recognised. Evidence shows there is a higher prevalence of psychological need amongst people with HIV compared with the general population, and HIV and mental health problems are both highly stigmatised – which often makes people unwilling to speak out.

A new report from Medical Justice 'Detained and Denied' outlines 35 cases where people being detained in Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) have not received the HIV treatment and care to which they are entitled. Failures of care include interruptions to medication (which risks seriously undermining the effectiveness of treatment), breaches of confidentiality and poor access to clinicians.
