World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV. The UK theme for World AIDS Day 2010 was ACT AWARE. The aim was to make commitments to help improve understanding about HIV in the UK, prevent HIV transmission and stop prejudice.
The UK theme for World AIDS Day 2010 was ACT AWARE. And the call to action was to make a personal pledge to ACT AWARE.
ACT AWARE is about taking action. It’s about making commitments to help improve understanding about HIV in the UK, prevent HIV transmission and stop prejudice. Being aware of the facts about HIV and acting on that knowledge to inform your behaviour are vital steps in taking care of your own health and wellbeing, the health and wellbeing of others, and ensuring you treat everyone living with HIV fairly and with understanding.
We are asking people to ACT AWARE because many people do not understand all the ways HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, the reality of living with HIV today, or the fact that the number of people diagnosed with HIV has been increasing in the UK.
NAT develops and manages the UK's website for World AIDS Day, www.worldaidsday.org, which gives people the opportunity to find out more about the realities of HIV in the UK and participate by making a personal pledge on how they will personally ACT AWARE and make a difference
